My work focuses on timeless shapes and hand building. The anomalies and quirks arising from that process are an important feature of my work. I enjoy the physicality and the challenges of mastering simple age-old techniques. I am drawn to the transformative aspects of the firing process. Porcelain expands my color palette and provides opportunities to explore translucency. Texture is a prominent feature in my work. I draw inspiration from nature, printmaking, mandalas and Japanese textiles.
I started seriously working with clay at Princeton University, where I studied with Toshiko Takaezu. After graduating, I was invited to utilize and support the resources and needs of her studio in Quakertown NJ on a periodic basis. Closely associated with The Takaezu Studio Project, I regularly contribute to its open house events and workshops.
